Species Details

Cock's-foot is a native tufted perennial of grasslands, waysides, cultivated ground, waste places and open woods, usually on fertile neutral to basic soils. It was also much grown for hay and pasture so the larger varieties from artificial habitats are probably the remnants of planting. It is very common throughout our area avoiding only the high moorlands of the Dark Peak.
