Species Details

This hybrid orchid is a very rare native perennial of rough and wet grassy areas in marshes, fens, old quarries and industrial wasteland. Excluding the high moors, it occurs scattered over the northern half of our county [Grin Wood SK0472; Rowsley Sidings SK2664; Mortimer Wilson School grounds SK4155]. There is also an isolated occurrence at Hilton Gravel Pits (SK2431). Derbyshire holds the altitudinal record for the plant at 380m near Buxton. Its parents are Common Spotted-orchid (XXD. fuchsii) and Southern Marsh-orchid (XXD. praetermissa), with which it generally occurs.
