Species Details

Northern Marsh-orchid is a very rare native perennial of marshes, wet grasslands and fens, often in association with disused industrial sites such as abandoned quarries. It occurs in the northern half of the county [Longdendale SK0698; Doveholes Dale SK0877; Hartington Station Quarry SK1561; Houndkirk Moor SK2882; and M1 Junction 29 SK4566]. It is a plant of upland Britain, and our sites are on the south-eastern limit of its UK distribution (Preston XXet al. 2002).
