Species Details

Marsh Helleborine is an attractive and very rare native perennial of base rich mires and fen woods in the north of the county. Long known at just one site, Whitwell Wood (SK5278), it was last reported flowering in 1990 and last seen in 1993. A search in 2002 found nothing. It was previously recorded from central parts of the county including Ashbourne (SK14, SK15), Matlock (SK25) and from SK45. Note that a 1995 record for SK27 was published in error in the New Atlas (Preston et al, 2002).

This plant is in Category 4 of the local Red Data List, 2009.
