Species Details

Cornish Heath has been recorded as growing in our area after 1950 but has not been seen since 1986. It was recorded as a very rare evergreen undershrub, established in the central part of our area up to 1972 (Whitesprings Nursery SK2865 and Matlock Moor Farm SK3162). Its origin here was probably as a relic of cultivation or a garden escape. Nationally it grows naturally in western Cornwall where it is categorised in terms of conservation status as “near threatened” in Britain (Wiggington 1999).
