Species Details

This eyebright is a very rare, native annual of damp grassland and heathland. Both recent confirmed records are from the north-western part of modern Derbyshire, in VC58: Taxal Moor (SK0079) and Hoo Moor (SK0176). Previous records exist for a wider area in western Derbyshire, ranging from (SK08) in the north, through Gib Hill (SK1563) and Coombs Dale (SK2274) in the White Peak, to Clifton (SK1743) in the Southern Claylands. The number of older records on the limestone is surprising due to the preference of the species elsewhere for acid areas. It is probably under recorded. Even many botanists shy away from determining specific eyebrights.

This plant is in Category 2 of the local Red Data List, 2009.
