Species Details

Russian Vine is a rare established woody climber of tips hedges walls and abandoned gardens. It grows scattered throughout the county though it rarely establishes away from habitation (New Mills SK0085, Wingfield Manor SK3754 & Swarkstone Bridge SK3628). It is grown in gardens from where it sometimes escapes or is thrown out though some apparent escapees are still rooted in gardens. Much of its recorded spread since 1986 is due to better recent recording. It is indigenous to central Asia.
