Species Details

Japanese Knotweed is unfortunately an established perennial of waysides, waste places and tips. It is frequent throughout our area except for the high moors of the Dark Peak. It is sometimes grown in gardens from where it escapes as a throwout. Once established it forms a troublesome weed, as its dense thickets prevent almost any other plant growing with it (Charter 1997 & 1999). It is indigenous to eastern Asia.
