Species Details

Wild Strawberry is an occasional native perennial of grassland, light woods and scrub on calcareous to slightly acid soils. It is also sometimes grown in gardens from where it can escape into the wild. It is recorded from throughout our area though it is commoner in the Magnesian Limestone, Peak Fringe, White Peak and adjacent parts of the Dark Peak. Sites where it has been long recorded include Dale Head (SK1276), Bolderstone (SK1761), Bruns Wood (SK2456), Langwith Wood (SK5068) and Risley Glebe (SK4635).
