Species Details

Shaggy Soldier is a very rare casual annual of waysides, waste places and cultivated ground. This plant is found sporadically through Derbyshire from Hayfield (SK0387) and Cresswell Allotments (SK5273) in the north, through St Werburgh’s Churchyard, Derby (SK3436), to Melbourne (SK3925) and Long Eaton (SK4933) in the south. A specimen from the Derby City location may be found at Derby Museum. Probably introduced via soil from nursery plants, it is indigenous to South America.
