Species Details

Small Balsam is a rare newly established annual of damp shady places in woods, on riverbanks and in disturbed areas. It has been found from Chisworth (SJ9992) and Meersbrook Park (SK3584) in the north, through Lathkill Dale (SK1865) and Ambergate Station (SK3451), to Melbourne Pool (SK3824) and Attenborough (SK5033) in the south. It appears to be particularly associated with the corridor of the River Derwent north of Derby. Clapham (1969) gave it as increasing but there seems little evidence of any spread since then though it does appear to move around from site to site.
