Species Details

Flax is a rare casual annual of waste ground, tips, cultivated land and waysides.Of cultivated origin, it occurs scattered through the county, mainly in the eastern lowlands, from Hadfield SK0296 and Beighton Tip SK4384 in the north, to Ockbrook SK4137 and Pasture Lane SK5031 in the south. Currently seen as a bird-seed alien, it was formerly grown for linen (Farey 1815), and now for linseed oil and game food.
