Species Details

Pyramidal Orchid is a rare, native perennial of well-drained grassland that can also colonise old quarries and wasteland. This beautiful plant is mainly seen in the White Peak and on the Magnesian Limestone {Topley Pike SK1072; Corner Deep Rake SK2273; Rose End Meadows SK2856; Bakestone Moor SK5276}. Elsewhere it occurs only as isolated populations {Shipley Country Park SK4443; south of Morley Lane SK3741}.

Tthe BSBI's Local Change Survey found a doubling in frequency since 1987-8, possibly due to climate change.
