Species Details

Tall Mint is a very rare newly established perennial. The only recent records are from the margins of Ogston Reservoir (SK3759) and Lawn Farm (SK3050). Previously, it occurred sporadically throughout the county on the edges of water bodies, on waysides and waste ground. There has been a national decline (Preston XXet al. 2002), but it is not clear if this is real, or a change in recording. This plant is the hybrid of Corn (XXM. arvensis), Water (XXM. aquatica) and Spear Mint (XXM. spicata), probably of garden origin, but it may sometimes arise spontaneously in the wild.
