Species Details

Monkeyflower is a newly established perennial of marshes, damp grasslands and wet places by streams and ponds. It occurs rarely throughout our area from Long Clough (SK0392) and Sheffield Road Grassland (SK5274) in the north, through the Holt Wood area (SK2862) and Shirley Park (SK2042), to the River Derwent (SK3834) and the Trent and Mersey Canal (SK2626) in the south. It is probably over-recorded for the Hybrid Monkeyflower (XXM. x robertsii) particularly in the uplands. It is a native of western North America that is grown in gardens for ornament.
