Species Details

Wild Marjoram is a clump-forming native perennial of dry grasslands, scrub and disturbed ground, generally on infertile calcareous soils. This aromatic plant is frequent in the White Peak [Hay Dale SK1176; Over Haddon SK2066; Middleton Top SK2755], but is rare elsewhere [Fairholmes SK1789; Markland Grips SK5074; King’s Newton SK3827]. Some records may represent escapes from cultivation, grown as the herb 'oregano'.
