Orobanche rapum-genistae
Greater Broomrape
Species Details
(Locally extinct) Greater Broomrape was a very rare native perennial, that grew as a total root parasite on Broom (XXCytisus scoparius) and Gorse (XXUlex europaeus). It formerly occurred in the south of our area from Stanton Moor (SK26) 1889 and Alfreton-Holbrook (SK45) 1789, to Repton Rocks (SK32) and Dale Hills (SK43) both 1903. This local loss mirrors a more widespread regional decline the cause of which is not understood (Preston XXet al. 2002).
This plant is in Category 4 of the local Red Data List, 2009.
