Species Details

Wild Parsnip is a rare native biennial of grassland, waysides and waste ground, especially on dry base-rich soils. This species occurs mainly in the east of Derbyshire and is often associated with railway land {Staveley SK4374; Alfreton Station SK4256; Swanwick Junction SK4151, Lock Lane Ash Tip SK4831}. There are also a few records in the White Peak to the west at Dean Hollow (SK2856) and Grin Low (SK0571). Our native plant is variety Xxsativa but a few records, particularly on waste ground, may be escaped plants of the cultivated variety Xxhortensis.
