Species Details

Common Bistort is an occasional native perennial of damp grasslands and roadsides. It was also commonly grown in gardens as a pot-herb under the local names of Passion or Patience Dock (Grigson 1975). Many colonies are therefore probably garden escapes or throwouts. It occurs throughout our area except it appears to have been lost recently from the area south of Derby.
