Species Details

Sweet Vernal Grass is a tufted native perennial of a wide range of grasslands, heaths and moors. It is common throughout our area except for some areas of intensive farming where it is rare. Until the 1920s it was sown as part of grass-seed mixes for agricultural grasslands. However, it is not now, and it has been lost form many planted grasslands due to intensification of cultivation.
