Species Details

Hoary Plantain is a native perennial of neutral to basic grasslands. It is common in the White Peak as at Peter Dale (SK1276) and Bonsall (SK2556), and frequent on the Magnesian Limestone as at Cresswell Crags (SK5374) and Bolsover Moor (SK4971). Elsewhere it occurs rarely scattered throughout our area as at Dinting Vale Wood (SK0194), Crich Cliff (SK3455) and Ticknall Village (SK3523). It has been lost from many sites in both the lowlands and the Peak District (Buckingham XXet al. 200?) since the 1980s due to the agricultural improvement of pastures and haymeadows. However, its loss in the Peak District has been masked by its continued presence in marginal areas and on roadsides.
