Species Details

Common Milkwort is a native perennial of short infertile grassland on calcareous or acidic soils, as well as of heathlands. It is frequent in the White Peak for example at Hay Dale (SK17I), Meadow Place Grange (SK2065) and Hopton Quarry (SK2656). Elsewhere it is only rare as at Upper Derwent (SK1490), Markland Grips (SK5074) and Ticknall Quaries (SK3623). There has been some loss of sites outside the White Peak since 1950 due to agricultural intensification. This loss mirrors a more general national decline over the period due to the same cause (Preston XXet al. 2002).
