Species Details

Aspen is an occasional native tree of damp woods, hedges and moorland flushes. It grows throughout our area from the Dark Peak (Edale SK1486) through Crich Chase (SK3452) to Robin Wood (SK3525) and Grange Wood (SK2714) in the south. It usually occurs as individual trees or as dense thickets formed by sucker growths. However, it can occasionally occur as significant stands as at Cressbrook Dale (SK1773) and Monk’s Dale (SK1373) forming part of the characteristic dale side vegetation there (Mabey 1996).
