Potentilla crantzii
Alpine Cinquefoil
Species Details
This cinquefoil is a very rare, low growing, native perennial of rocky places in limestone grassland. As a native species, it has only ever been recorded in recent times from Monks Dale (SK1375). An old 19th century record (based on a specimen at Cambridge) was reconfirmed here in 1974. Another specimen collected at Buxton (SK07) by Rev Gisborne in 1800 is in herb CGE. [needs clarification] The plant was also recorded as a casual on Hadfield Tip (SK0196) in 1989. Elsewhere it occurs infrequently in upland Britain. Its Derbyshire locality is the southern-most site in England. It is Nationally Scarce (Stewart et al. 1994).
This plant is in Category 3 of the local Red Data List, 2009.
