Prunus cerasifera
Cherry Plum
Species Details
Cherry Plum is a rare casual shrub or small tree of hedges and copses. It is often a relic of cultivation or, more recently, part of an amenity planting though sometimes its origin is obscure. It occurs scattered through our area from the Sett Valley Trail (SK0286) and Beighton (SK4383) in the north to Trent Bridge (SK2522) and Baldock Mill (SK4240) in the south. It is early flowering and thus often over-looked. It is indigenous to south-eastern Europe.
