Species Details

Common Wintergreen is a very rare native, evergreen perennial of wooded and heathy areas. Its current distribution is the north of the county (Disley SJ9885 and Unstone SK3777) with the majority of its records from the Miller’s Dale/Monsal Dale area (SK1377). Previously it grew over a similar area and it has thus not shown locally the decline it has undergone nationally due to changes in land use and management (Preston et al. 2002).
