Species Details

Hybrid Oak is a large native tree of woodlands that is also sometimes planted. It occurs scattered rarely throughout the northern half of our area (Meadow Farm SK0183, Farley Moor SK3063 & Geer Lane SK3980) with an isolated record in the south at Shirley Park (SK2042). It is the hybrid of our two native oaks, Sessile Oak (XXQ. petraea) and Pedunculate Oak (XXQ. robur). It is often difficult to tell clearly from its parents and is thus probably under recorded.
