Ribes uva-crispa
Gooseberry
Species Details
Gooseberry is a native spiny shrub of woods, hedges and shady stream-banks. It occurs frequently throughout our area except for the Dark Peak. It is much grown in gardens for its rather overrated fruit and thus many of our records may be of garden escapes or throw outs. In fact some modern authorities (Preston XXet al. 2002) consider that all plants in the wild in Britain are introductions.
