Species Details

This native hybrid is recorded as a very rare shrub of woods scrub hedges grassland and waste ground. All records are from the western half of our area. Recent sightings are from Dove Dale (SK1453) north to Deep Dale (SK1669) and Small Clough (SK1284). Previous records are only for the Ashbourne area, for example Thorpe (SK1549) and Rough Lane (SK2243), both for 1969. This apparent change in distribution is probably an artefact of recording, and of earlier confusion of it with Northern Dog-rose (XXR. caesia). It is the natural hybrid of Dog Rose (XXR. canina) and Northern Dog-rose (XXR. caesia).
