Species Details

Japanese Rose is a rare established shrub of waysides, rough ground and waste land. It has been recorded throughout our area from Edale Village (SK1285) and Dronfield (SK3578) in the north, to Burton-on-Trent (SK22) and Barrow-on-Trent (SK3528) in the south. It is often grown in gardens, for ornament or hedging, from where it escapes or is thrown-out. It is also increasingly used in amenity plantings, sometimes for its spines to deter trespassers. It is indigenous to Eastern Asia.
