Species Details

This native plant of woods hedges and heaths is one of our more common brambles. Recent records are all from the northern and central parts of our area, for example at Chinley (SK0484), Stoke Wood (SK2376), Watts Cliff Quarry (SK2262) and Common Farm Pit (SK2845). Previously it was also recorded from southern Derbyshire, as at Eggington Common (SK22) and Dale (SK43) both for 1903. Nationally it is mostly a plant of southern Britain (Newton & Randall 2004).
