Species Details

Sharp-stipuled Willow is a very rare native shrub of wet ground by ponds and streams from throughout our area except for the Dark Peak. It has also been planted for basketry and is nationally now being planted for biomass production. There are no recent records, some of the latest being from Chesterfield (SK3872) in 1978, and Bentley Brook (SK1646) and Yeldersley Pond (SK2144) both in 1969. It is the hybrid of Almond Willow (XXS. triandra) and Osier (XXS. viminalis).
