Species Details

Horse-radish is an established perennial of overgrown gardens, roadsides, river-banks and waste ground. It is frequent in the lowland south and east of our area but only rare in the more upland north and west. It was formerly much grown in gardens as a vegetable but only occurs as a relic of cultivation or garden throwout as it does not set seed in Britain (Preston XXet al. 2002). It is possibly indigenous to western Asia.
