Spergula arvensis
Corn Spurrey
Species Details
Corn Spurrey is an occasional native annual of arable farmland, especially on sandy acidic soil. Scattered across Derbyshire, it avoids only the higher moors of the Dark Peak. Two varieties have been recorded, of which var. Xxarvensis is the commonest. Clapham's 1969 Flora notes that variety Xxsativa has been recorded only from Hulland Gravel Pit (SK2645) and Smisby (SK3419). It is declining nationally due to agricultural intensification (Preston XXet al. 2002).
