Species Details

Cowberry is an occasional native plant of the South West Peak (Hogshaw Brook SK0575), Dark Peak (Ashop Clough SK1090) and Peak Fringe (Stone Edge SK36I) where it grows as an evergreen undershrub in open woods and moors. Its only current record away from these areas is for Bradwell Moor (SK1480) in the White Peak. There has been no recorded change in its distribution over the last 50 years. Locally it has been known as Clusterberry (Grigson 1975). Nationally it is a plant of upland areas and is on the eastern limit of its distribution with us.
