Species Details

Narrow-fruited Cornsalad is an anciently established annual of arable fields. There are no recent records, the last record being from Upper Pleasley (SK4963) in 1977. There were records from Deep Dale (SK0971), Stanley (SK4143), Oxcroft Colliery (SK4673) and fields near Whitwell Wood (SK5178 & 5278) in the 1960s and 1970s. Earlier the plant was known scattered rarely throughout our area, as at Newhall (SK22), Calke (SK32) and Repton (SK32) all for 1903. This local decline reflects a national decrease due to the intensification of arable farming (Preston XXet al. 2002).

This plant is in Category 2 of the local Red Data List, 2009.
