Species Details

Wood Vetch is a very rare native climber of woods and scrub, often on stony ground. Most modern records are in the White Peak (e.g. Heights of Abraham SK2858; Cressbrook Dale SK1773; Miller’s Dale station SK1373). Other records are known for Unstone (SK3777) and Swallows Wood Nature Reserve (SK0097 v.c.58). It was previously recorded from these and other parts of southern Derbyshire (Coldwall Bridge SK14; Repton Shrubs SK32 and Breadsall SK3739). It has shown a similar national decline, possibly due to a decrease in coppicing, causing plants to be shaded out (Preston et al. 2002).

This plant is in Category 5a of the local Red Data List, 2009.
