Species Details

Lesser Periwinkle is an anciently established creeping perennial of waysides woods and waste places. It occurs rarely throughout our county from Lower Shatton (SK1982) and Millhouses (SK3383) in the north, through Alderwasley (SK3253), to Thulston (SK4031) and east of Pistern Hill (SK3520) in the south. It is widely grown in gardens for ornament, and often grows out into surrounding areas or is discarded with garden waste. It is a native of central and south-western Europe.
