Species Details

Mistletoe is a native evergreen that is a partial parasite on the branches of a range of deciduous trees including apples and poplars. It occurs on trees in hedges, copses and along roadsides, as well as in orchards and gardens. These latter occurrences suggest it is often deliberately introduced. It grows occasionally throughout the eastern and southern parts of our area including Renishaw Park (SK4378), Ridgeway (SK3551), Dobbin Horse Lane (SK1744), Sunnyhill (SK3432), Chaddesden (SK3736) and Lullington Churchyard (SK2513). Having mystical and festive connections, it has often been commented upon by non-botanical writers in Derbyshire. Thus for example Farey (1815) gives a list of localities in his account of the county.
