Species Details

Maize is a very rare casual annual of waste dumps, though it is also occasionally planted as field crop for animal fodder. The only local records, both recent, come from Fairfield Tip (SK0674). It is under-recorded. It is probably introduced into the wild via bird-seed or kitchen waste, or it may be a relic of cultivation.
