Species Details

Flat-sedge is a very rare, native perennial of marshy areas in limestone dales. The only current Derbyshire sites are in the Miller’s Dale area of the White Peak {Chee Dale SK1373}, from where there is a specimen in Derby Museum. Previously it occurred over a slightly wider area from near Buxton (SK07) in the west to Bakewell (SK26) in the east. Nationally over recent years its distribution has been much reduced by agricultural improvement (Preston et al. 2002). Here it does not seem to have suffered as much.

This plant is in Category 2 of the local Red Data List, 2009.
