Species Details

Turnip is an occasional established annual or biennial of streamsides, arable fields and waste land. It has been recorded from throughout our area except for the northern moors. Three subspecies occur, subspecies Xxcampestris, oleifera and rapa. Subspecies XXcampestris (Wild Turnip) is a plant of semi-natural habitats by streams; subspecies Xxrapa (Turnip) is generally a relic of cultivation; and subspecies Xxoleifera (Turnip-rape) is a seed contaminant that occurs mostly on waste ground. The species is a native of Eurasia.
