Species Details

Common Centaury is an attractive native biennial of dry open grasslands, heaths, woodland margins and rides, spoil tips and waste places. It is occasional in the eastern parts of our area, where it can be locally abundant on areas disturbed for mining or restoration. Specimen localities are Swainspark (SK2916), Lock Lane Ash Tip (SK4831), Holloway (SK3255) and Steetley Quarry (SK5478). Elsewhere it is rare as at Dinting Reserve (SK0194).
