Species Details

Crowberry is an evergreen undershrub of moors, mountainsides and blanket bogs, though in the last habitat it only grows in the drier areas (Tallis 1997). It occurs throughout the Dark and South West Peak with only one record from outside these areas, Cobnar Wood (SK3575) from 1973. Our plant is subspecies Xxnigrum and it has the local name of Heath (Grigson 1975). Recently there has been some dieback of the plant in the Dark Peak, the reason for this is as yet unknown.
