Species Details

Small-leaved Lime is a very rare native tree of ancient, often rocky, woods in the White Peak (Pigott 1969) such as at Matlock Bath (SK2959). In the White Peak it often occurs with Large-leaved Lime (XXT. platyphyllos) and their hybrid. It is native but less frequent in woods on the Magnesian Limestone (Pleasley Vale SK5265), and in some of the gritstone cloughs of the Dark Peak (??Bretton or Abney Clough SK????). It is also widely but rarely planted throughout our area in parks gardens and woods. Some of these records in woods may include native trees such as at Grange Wood (SK2714), Linacre Woods (SK3272) and Hermit’s Wood (SK4438). It rarely sets seedlings in our county (Clapham 1969).
