Species Details

Lesser Twayblade is a very rare native perennial of wet heather moors and rock ledges of the Dark Peak. It was regarded as locally extinct until 2010 when it was rediscovered in Hope Forest woodland in SK19. Previous records were from near Grindleford (SK2680) and Cupola (SK2582) in the 1940s and Kinder Scout (SK08) and Hassop (SK27) in 1903. It was probably lost through a combination of excessive grazing and burning of heather moors and over-enthusiastic collecting (Anderson & Shimwell 1981).

This plant is in Category 6 of the local Red Data List, 2009.
